FAQs

What do I need to bring if I'm under 18 and want a piercing?

As a minor, you must be 13 years or older with a Parent or Legal Guardian to be pierced at A Living Canvas Tattoo, and must bring in ALL of the following documentation:

  • Valid State or Government issued ID of the minor (Driver's License, Permit, State/Government ID card, Passport, etc.)    * Student IDs are not valid State or Government issued IDs.

  • Birth Certificate (must be an original, cannot be a copy on computer paper) or Legal Guardianship paperwork

  • Valid State or Government ID of Parent/Legal Guardian (Driver's License, Permit, State/Government ID card, Passport, etc.)

Under no circumstances will we pierce a minor's nipples or genitals.

Does it hurt to get a tattoo?

  • It's uncomfortable but it is far from unbearable.

 What should I get tattooed?

  • Think about what you want BEFORE you come in. You can bring in pictures for reference and have us draw something up for you. Just remember it’s something permanent on your body for the rest of your life.

 Is getting a tattoo/piercing safe?

  • Yes, absolutely. When you get tattooed or pierced at A Living Canvas, all of our tools are disposable or sterilized in an autoclave. We use brand-new, pre-sterilized needles for every tattoo/piercing, and our other tools are autoclave sterilized. Gloves are always worn throughout the entire process and things that need to be touched are covered with a barrier to prevent cross-contamination.

How should I prepare before I get tattooed?

  • Before you come in, make sure you've eaten, even if it’s just a snack. Wear appropriate clothing for the area you want to get tattooed and make sure you've showered.

Can I come get my tattoo if I'm sick?

  • The answer to this one is NO for many reasons. One reason is that if your immune system is fighting off germs, your body won't be able to properly heal the tattoo. Also, don't bring the germs to the tattoo shop. There are other people in the shop and you don't want to risk getting others sick. If you're not feeling well, just call and reschedule.

Can I bring my family/friends with me?

  • You will only be allowed to have one person back with you at a time. It's very distracting when there is more than one person.

Can I do drugs or have a drink before I come get tattooed or pierced?

  • No, Absolutely not. We will not tattoo or pierce you if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Can I bring my kids with me?

  • No. We do not allow children in our shop. It’s not a safe place for kids and you can't keep an eye on them if you're getting tattooed.

How much is it going to cost?

  • Cost is dependent on where you want your tattoo, how detailed it is, and the size. Good tattoos aren't cheap and cheap tattoos aren't good. This is something that's going to be on your body for the rest of your life. And remember, you get what you pay for. Don't price shop, look at portfolios and pick an artist who will give you the beautiful tattoo you want.
